Patterns of Physical Transformation with Drs Ron and Edie Perry in London June 2007

PPT is the name given to the set of tools and techniques that Drs Ron and Edie Perry have developed after there experiences with clinical and energetic medicine. Both Ron and Edie are fully trained and globally recognized chiropractic doctors, with several research papers under their belt. Primarily they concern themselves with the functionality of muscles, muscle sets, body-architecture and neurology and their techniques reflect this. However, what gives their tools the edge is the clever way in which they combine several different techniques and models to realize a much more useful super-set of tools which can be applied under a vast range of circumstances. Their heavy use of bodywork techniques combined with the language techniques of NLP and related technologies, allows them to induce rapid, potent and lasting change into their clients. And this is why I attended their recent 3 day workshop on PPT in London.

Waiting in the seminar room for the workshop to begin, I started to assess the demographic of the type of people that this work had attracted, and to be honest I didn’t really reach any conclusion. A large proportion of the seats were filled with NLPers I had met on several other events, but their were several other new faces. Their were clinical, energetic and yogic practitioners, as well as several delegates with no apparent connection to bodywork or NLP. This workshop topic obviously appealed to a large range of people wanting to make working with ‘bodies’ easier and more potent.

Ron and Edie walked on to stage slowly and comfortably, very unlike the NLP “confidence-trip” I am used to seeing at the beginning of NLP workshops. They didn’t seem interested in making us feel energized or excited, they seemed more set on making sure we and the reality around us was as comfortable as possible! As the first day progressed, it was soon apparent that this was not by mistake, but very much by design. Every single utterance from the speakers was appreciated as an attempt to make us all feel as comfortable as we could. Ron’s wit and humor was also prevalent, and as the course continued it was also obvious that the duo’s rapport on stage was increasingly synergetic. As they tossed the ‘conch’ to-and-fro it was easy to see that this was a set of techniques they were passionate about. Their zeal for experimentation and investigation was also obvious as they answered questions from the floor. They even managed to include elements of a seminar occurring in the room adjacent to ours, into theirs!

On day one we covered mostly functionality concerned with rotation. This meant covering the finger-magic lesson, which I use on almost every client I see with a physical ailment. By covering it again, I was aware of several key elements I could enhance to make the work I do much more potent, much of which was concerned with my sensory acuity. “What are you looking for? I don’t know but I’ll know it when I see it.” Every sub-modality of the area being examined was catalogued, but no judgment was passed on its cause or effect. This type of examination not only made me all much more aware of the acuity necessary, but allowed me to build a much richer model of the types of things I should be aware of to build a better model of the system I was observing. We also covered a very interesting technique Drs Perry had named the “Twisting Transformer”: I wrote in my notes “Twist, Resist and Release” which seems a much more descriptive title for the procedure.

Day two was more concerned with the lateral motion of limbs and muscle sets. I think this was one of the more difficult areas for me to grasp, as lateral motion is not as common (I think) as rotation or flexation. It was soon apparent that the tools and techniques we had learnt on day one were far more applicable to entire ranges of movement that I had assumed. We also covered a similar tool to the “Twisting Transformer” which relied on pushing the arm up towards the head, and then asking the patient to resist and push back. This was equally impressive in terms of speed, potency and results. Unfortunately I fell ill in the latter part of the afternoon, and was unable to continue with the course, but later on I was able to catch up with some of the seminar trainers who quickly brought me up to speed on the topics covered, which included skin-stretching and energy induction loops.

Day three felt much fresher than the previous two days, we were all much more dynamic as a group, and felt much more confident and comfortable with the tools we were picking up so quickly. We covered mostly flexation motion on this day, and in doing so we were taught a very interesting 6 stage process on the scapula of the shoulder, whereby tensions and immobility could be quickly corrected. At the end of the day we had a short ceremony where Drs Ron and Edie presented us with a token certificate that verifies the fact that we attended the course and participated in the exercises. I was also lucky enough to take a couple of photos with Ron and Edie, as well as Kate Benson who was hosting the workshop though the Matrix Essential Training Alliance.

I would thoroughly recommend the course to anyone who has the opportunity to do so. PPT is still a relatively unheard-of technology, and it’s applications are wide and varied. Everyone at the course got something out of it, including Kate and the other trainers. If you want any further information about PPT then don’t hesitate to contact Kate though her website. If you want to know any further details about the course from an impartial 3rd party and I am more than happy for you to contact me directly.

On a personal note I would like to thank Ron and Edie for bringing the PPT course to the UK and for providing me with a more varied palette with which to help my clients. Thank You.
